XE75Pro – does not activate Wifi 6
The TP-Link XE75Pro is positioned as a fast and reliable WiFi 6 system, but sometimes it don’t deliver the speed you expect. It is not always your devices or your ISP causing the problem often, the issue comes down to the way it set up. In this guide, we will walk through the fixes that actually get it working the way it should.
Check If Your Devices Even Support WiFi 6
It is very essential to understand whether your device even support WiFi 6 or not. Many users try to connect a 2016 laptop and expecting it to run WiFi 6. No, this is not possible. WiFi 6 requires compatibility on both the router and the connected device. The router (in this case, your XE75Pro) supports it, but your device also needs to.
Log Into Your Deco Settings
Here is where a lot of people mess up. They complete the tp link deco setup once and then they never go back to check advanced settings. The Deco app is good, but it hides a lot of the controls.
There is a need to go into tp-link deco login (either from the app’s web login or a browser on your computer) and manually check if WiFi 6 is turned on. Sometimes the “Smart Connect” setting automatically disables certain features for compatibility and that can block WiFi 6.
Look for something that says “WiFi 6 mode.” If it is off then turn it on. Save the changes. Restart your XE75Pro.
Don’t Skip the Firmware Update
Always make sure to check for the check the firmware. TP-Link has been sending out updates that fix WiFi 6 activation issues. If you skip them, you are basically asking for trouble.
Through the Tp-link deco login page, you will be able to see the firmware section. Update it. If it says you are already on the latest one, click “check again.” Sometimes the first check lies. Also, after the update make sure to reboot the unit.
Change the Network Mode
If you have done the Tp link deco setup with default settings, it often defaults to a mixed mode for “compatibility.” This means your WiFi 6-capable devices are sharing the same settings as older devices which slows them down and can even disable WiFi 6 entirely.
Go into wireless settings. If you see a drop-down for “Mode,” set it to 802.11ax only or WiFi 6 only. This may disconnect older devices, but that is the trade-off for getting maximum speed.
Separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz Bands
Smart Connect combines 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one name. But the problem is that some devices connect to 2.4GHz and completely ignore 5GHz WiFi 6.
From your tp-link deco login, disable Smart Connect. Rename your 5GHz band something like “HomeWiFi6” and leave 2.4GHz as “HomeWiFi.” Connect your WiFi 6 devices only to the 5GHz one.
Reset If All Else Fails
When all of your efforts doesn’t work, a fresh start is necessary. Press and hold the reset button on the XE75Pro until it blinks. Then, do the tp link deco setup again.
With this you can configure it right from the start with WiFi 6 mode on, firmware updated and Smart Connect disabled.
Some Troubleshooting Tips
- Check device compatibility: no WiFi 6 on old devices.
- Login to advanced settings: use tp-link deco login to enable 802.11ax.
- Update firmware: do it even if it says “latest version.”
- Force WiFi 6 mode:stop letting it run in mixed mode.
- Separate your bands: keep 5GHz for WiFi 6 devices only.
- Re-do tp link deco setup: only if you’ve exhausted everything else.
