Deco AX3000 Outdoor Mesh WiFi 6 Unit Setup
There are a lot of models of TP-link Deco which connects with the modem and provides your home network a boost.
Here we will discuss about the Deco AX3000 setup. The installation is easy and simple. Basically, there are three units in a package box of Deco, same size, same hardware, same shape.
You just have to choose which one will connect with the modem and which connects with the router Deco node. So, let’s start this TP Link Deco setup without any delay.
Deco AX3000 Setup
At first, we will give you simple instructions to cabling your router node, then how to configure and how to sync all the units.
Cable Deco with Modem
- Plug the main Deco into the modem with the Ethernet cable it came with.
- Power it on. Give it a minute.
- When the LED goes green or yellowish, the app should see it.
- If not, hit the reset pinhole button at the back.
Setup through Deco App
- Download the Deco app. Don’t even bother trying to do this from the web interface-TP-Link really wants you in that app. iOS or Android, doesn’t matter.
- Open the app. It’ll make you log in with a TP-Link account. If you don’t have one, sign up-takes 30 seconds.
- Hit the big “+” icon. Pick your model. Scroll until you see AX3000 or X55 (same thing). The app will tell you to wait for the LED to flash yellow.
- It does this weird breathing thing. If it’s solid, press the reset button for like 10 seconds.
- Once the light’s right, the app starts looking for it via Bluetooth. Keep your phone close. If it can’t find it, kill the app and restart-happened to me once.
- Next, pick your network name and password. This is where Deco is nice-one SSID for both 2.4 and 5 GHz. Don’t overthink it.
- After that, the app does some firmware check. Let it update. Grab a coffee, it takes a couple minutes.
- Once the main unit is up, add your other Decos. Same thing: plug them in, wait for yellow blinking, app finds them, done. They automatically mesh.
- Placement matters. The app nags you about it, but yeah, don’t stick one in a dead zone expecting miracles. Line of sight if possible.
- When it’s all green lights in the app, you’re good. Run the speed test in-app. Mine matched my ISP speed on Wi-Fi, which is nice.
Setup through Tplinkdeco.net
- Connect to the Deco Wi-Fi or be wired into the main unit. If you’re on your neighbor’s Wi-Fi or your phone’s LTE, forget it.
- Now, type tplinkdeco.net in the browser. If it loads, you should see the Deco web interface.
- If it doesn’t load, don’t panic. Most of the time it’s a DNS issue. Try this instead: 192.168.0.1.
- Log in with your TP-Link ID (same one you used in the Deco app). No local password?
- That’s because everything syncs through the cloud now. Old-school firmware had local logins, but these new AX series are tied to your account.
How to Update Deco Mesh System Firmware?
- Open the Deco App. so grab your phone, open up the Deco app. If you don’t have it yet… well, download it from the App Store or Google Play.
- Go to “More”. Bottom right corner in the app. Tap that little More tab. That’s where all the nerdy stuff hides.
- Hit “Update Deco”. You’ll see Update Deco under the menu. Tap it. The app will check for new firmware for each unit in your mesh.
- Run the Update. If it says there’s an update, hit Update All. Don’t freak out if it takes a while – it’s pushing firmware to every node, one by one.
- Your Wi-Fi will probably drop during this. Don’t panic, it’s normal.
- After the update, the Decos reboot. Again, your Wi-Fi will go dark for a few minutes.
How to Change Deco WiFi Password?
- Open the Deco app. Log in with your TP-Link account. Yes, you need that account.
- If you forgot the login, you’re stuck doing a reset later. Just saying.
- Pick your network. Tap on the little Wi-Fi icon in the app. It’s usually at the bottom.
- Edit the settings. You’ll see your network name (SSID) and the current password.
- Tap Wi-Fi Settings or Network Settings (depends on the app version).
- Change the password. Type in the new one. Make it something you’ll actually remember, & hit Save.
- Wait a sec. The Deco system will push the new password to all the units.
- It’ll disconnect your devices for a moment because, you changed the key.
- Reconnect. Use the new password on all your stuff.
Troubleshooting Tips: Deco AX3000 Setup
All these below given troubleshooting tips and solutions are applicable, which are provided by the WiFi experts.
Use the App.
The Deco app is the only way this thing wants to talk. Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is on and you’re on the right Wi-Fi. Sounds dumb, but it breaks if you’re on 5G mobile or your old network during setup.
If it’s not detecting the main unit:
Unplug the modem and Deco. Plug the modem back in. Wait. Like a full minute. Then power up the Deco. It’s picky about order. ISP modems hold on to old MAC addresses and just refuse new devices until they cool off.
Check the cable.
If you swapped the Ethernet cable, try the original. Some cheap cables kill gigabit speeds or just… don’t handshake right.
The light colors
Yellow flashing = booting. Pulsing blue = ready to pair. Solid green = good. Solid red = nope, no internet. If it’s red, go back to the modem thing above. 90% of the time, that’s it.
Adding extra Decos?
Put them like halfway to where you actually want them. Don’t shove them in the dead zone immediately. Let them connect close, then move them after. Otherwise, they’ll sit there blinking like an idiot and never sync.
If you’re still stuck: Close the App,
restart your phone, try again. Sounds stupid, but the app glitches sometimes. And yeah, if nothing works, factory reset and redo it. Sometimes that’s faster than endless “retry” hell.
Reset Everything.
Hold that little reset pin on the main Deco for like 10 seconds until the light flashes yellow. Do the same for the others if you messed with them already. Start fresh.
