Deco AXE5400 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System Setup
There are a lot of mesh systems of TP-Link Deco and one of them is AXE5400 model with three networking devices in the content box.
All the three devices are same; you can choose any as your router device and other two for child nodes.
Here, you will get to know how to complete the TP-Link Deco AXE5400 setup with the help of the Deco app or Deco login interface.
TP-Link Deco AXE5400 Setup
Physical Setup with Modem
Take the main Deco (the one you’re going to use as the “router” unit) and run an Ethernet cable from the modem into the Deco’s WAN/LAN port.
Doesn’t matter which Ethernet cable you use, the one that came with the Deco is fine.
Now, just turn the modem and Deco router on and start the configuration from the methods given below.
Setup with Deco App
You need the Deco app. Don’t bother trying to do it through the web or whatever you pretty much have to use the app.
- Grab it from the App Store (Google Play if you’re on Android). Logged in with my TP-Link account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to make it right there.
- Next, plug in the main Deco. This is the one that connects directly to your modem. The light on the top will start blinking yellow.
- Wait for that it takes longer than you think, restart it. Just give it a minute.
- The app basically walks you through step by step. It found my Deco right away and then asked me to name my new Wi-Fi network.
- You can pick any name, doesn’t matter. Just reuse my old SSID so you didn’t have to reconnect all my devices.
- Password setup is next—straightforward. Then you can start adding the other Deco units. For me, just plug the second one into a power outlet halfway across the house.
- Firmware updates. Every Deco addition must update right away. Don’t skip this. It saves you random connection issues later.
After that, you’re basically good to go. The app gives you a quick dashboard who’s connects, internet speed.
Setup with Tplinkdeco.net
Tplinkdeco.net is basically just the web interface if you want to check settings later. If it doesn’t load, it’s usually because your phone or laptop isn’t on the Deco Wi-Fi yet. Connect to the new Wi-Fi, then try it.
- Go into the web browser of your computer or laptop, and search the login URL tplinkdeco.net.
- A login page will appear and here you need to enter the admin login username and password.
- These login details are given on the back of the deco device, just use them and access the interface.
- In the TP-Link deco setup page, click “Set up new device” button. Select the model and then enter the new SSID username and password.
- Finish the Deco AXE5400 Setup and connect other devices one by one.
How to Sync Deco Child Nodes (AXE5400)?
- Now, open the Deco app. Hit the plus sign in the corner, choose Add Deco Unit. Pick the right model.
- The app will search, and if the node’s being stubborn, it’ll sit there forever saying “looking for Deco.”
- Once the app finds it, it’ll ask to assign the node’s location (Living Room, Office, whatever). Just name it so you know which one is where.
- Hit confirm and wait. The LED should go solid green after a minute or two. If it stays yellow/red, move it closer to the main Deco until it calms down.
Solutions for Error Free Deco AXE5400 Setup
1. Disable the Double NAT
Biggest issue: running the Deco in router mode when your ISP modem is already acting as one. That’s a mess. Log into your modem (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), see if it’s handing out IPs. If it is, either:
- Put the modem in bridge mode (best option if your ISP allows it).
- Or, put the Deco in Access Point mode. You’ll still get the Wi-Fi 6E goodness without the conflicts.
2. Do the App Setup on Mobile Data First
The Deco app sometimes refuses to initialize if you’re already on the Wi-Fi you’re trying to set up. Disable Wi-Fi on your phone and just start the setup on 4G/5G. Once the node boots and blinks blue, reconnect to the new Deco Wi-Fi.
3. Firmware Update Right Away
The units usually ship with old firmware. And old firmware = bugs. Once you get the first node online, go into the Deco app → More → Update Deco. Do that before adding satellites. Saves you from random disconnects.
4. Placement Matters More than They Admit
You need at least a halfway decent signal between them during setup or it’ll error out. Once it’s added, you can push it a little further. But for initial setup, keep them closer.
5. Manual Reboot Sometimes is the Only Fix
The app will tell you “Failed to add” or “try again later.” Ignore it. Unplug the Deco for 10 seconds, plug it back in, and retry. Old-school power cycle fixes more than the app ever will.
6. If All Else Fails, Factory Reset
Holding the reset button for ~10 seconds until the LED goes yellow is sometimes the only way to break out of a broken setup loop. Then start fresh, but this time follow steps 1–3 first so you don’t hit the same wall.
Reconfigure Your Deco AXE5400 Setup
- Open the Deco app → hit the “+” to add a new Deco. Select your model (AXE5400 should pop up).
- The app will walk you through plugging it in, waiting for the LED to turn pulsing blue, and connecting your phone to it.
- If you’ve got multiple units, it’ll ask you to add the others one by one. Just power them up near the main one, and it usually finds them automatically. If it doesn’t, unplug and retry.
- When it asks about internet connection type — 99% of users are either DHCP (automatic) or PPPoE if your ISP is old school. just left it on auto and it picked it up.
- Wi-Fi name and password setup is straightforward. Recommended, reusing your old SSID so all your devices reconnect without the hassle.
